Az alkatrészeket ( ellenállásokat, kondenzátorokat stb. ) általában úgy gyártják, hogy értékük az alábbi táblázatoknak megfelelő valamely értéksorba illeszkedjen.
Jól megfigyelhető, hogy az értékek mértani sor szerint követik egymást, azaz két szomszédos érték közötti relatív eltérés ( pontosság ) mindig ugyanaz.
Például az E24 ( 24 elemű ) sorban

| d = ( 2.4 - 2.2 ) / 2.2 | = 0.0909 |

| d = ( 7.5 - 6.8 ) / 6.8 | = 0.1029 |
A teljes értékskála a táblázatban szereplő értékek és 10 egészkitevős hatványainak szorzatából áll össze. Például
